Southampton fans can be boosted today by the news that Manchester United are apparently not interested in the signature of Jose Fonte – according to the Manchester Evening News.

The experienced defender has been a key component to the Southampton side since joining the club from Crystal Palace in 2010.

But after his incredible time at Southampton he has now decided he wants a new venture, after his excellent 2016 in which he helped Portugal to the Euro 2016 title in France.
This saw many rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford, but the MEN report that Jose Mourinho is happy with his current defensive options at the club after the regained fitness of Phil Jones and improved performances of Marcos Rojo.

Fonte has performed wonders at the back for Southampton, helping the club rise from League Two to the higher reaches of the Premier League.
But at 33-years-old it appears he is after one last challenge away from the club before ending his career.
However, Manchester United will seemingly not be the location.
