Manchester United have reportedly jumped to the front of the queue for Matthijs de Ligt.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United are now leading the race to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt having indicated they’ll pay £350,000-a-week to the young centre back.
United desperately need big additions this summer after a dreadful end to the campaign, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needing to get ruthless with his failing squad.
Whilst Victor Lindelof impressed this season, adding another centre back will be integral, and Ajax star De Ligt is one of the best on the market this summer.
The Mirror report that, with Barcelona stalling on a move, United have now jumped to the front of the queue having indicated they’ll outbid any club and pay £350,000-a-week to the teenager.
De Ligt would cost around £70million in transfer fees, meaning the 19-year-old would be an expensive yet ambitious addition for the Red Devils.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues. The first is that rivals Manchester City are also pushing to sign De Ligt having learned of Barcelona dropping out, and they may have a spot for the Dutchman after allowing Vincent Kompany to leave.
The second is that De Ligt only wants to join a Champions League side, which United can’t offer, and they’ll hope that offering so much money can help them compensate.
