According to ESPN, Manchester United are now interested in Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to target British players.

Wilson has cropped up on United’s wishlist, with his performances for Bournemouth continuing to impress.

Wilson already has three goals in five appearances this season, and United are now said to be considering making a move for the rapid forward.

If United were to bid for Wilson he is unlikely to come cheaply, as he was valued at £75 million by Bournemouth just months ago, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Wilson’s arrival would add further speed to United’s front line, if he was to be signed, and it would be interesting to see how he would slot in for Solskjaer’s side.

Wilson outscored Rashford last term, as he hit 14 goals compared to the United forward’s 10.

Wilson does have the advantage of always starting as Bournemouth’s most advanced striker, whereas Rashford often has to play on the flank at Old Trafford, but his arrival would certainly put the Red Devils’ academy graduate under pressure.

Rashford hasn’t fully convinced this term, with two of his three goals to date coming on opening day, and it could be his place in United’s front three which is most vulnerable, if Wilson does sign up in January.

If Wilson was brought to United, it would also raise questions over whether Anthony Martial would continue in his central striking role, or be moved back out wide.

Martial prefers to be played as a number nine, but that is the only position which Wilson can play, and if United were to commit big money to sign him he would surely be brought in as a starter.
