According to The Sun, Manchester United will offer midfielder Andreas Pereira in their latest move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.

England star Maguire has been one of United’s top defensive targets for the last year, but it’s claimed that Leicester now want a staggering £90million for him.

United aren’t willing to pay that kind of money, meaning they’re looking for ways to bring the price down, and that may involve playmaker Pereira.

It’s claimed that United know Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of Pereira, having wanted to sign him for Celtic in a move which didn’t go through – and he may now have a chance to land the midfielder.

Maguire would certainly bolster the United defence; that’s never really been in question. Many will now wonder whether Leicester should take Pereira though, with Rodgers seemingly an admirer from his Celtic days, though it’s unclear just when he wanted to bring him to Parkhead.

Leicester have seen loan star Youri Tielemans return to Monaco this summer, and with a permanent move potentially difficult to pull off, Pereira may fit as a replacement.

The 23-year-old has been on the United books since signing from PSV Eindhoven in 2011, but has only made 35 appearances for the Red Devils, and may feel himself that he needs to move on to play first-team football.

Leicester can offer the Brazilian international a new home, but Rodgers should really prefer to just target him on his own rather than give up star defender Maguire to get him given that he’s some way down the United pecking order.
