Manchester United are now in conversation with Atletico Madrid over the potential transfer of Kieran Trippier back to England.
According to The Athletic, talks between United’s director of football negotiations Matt Judge and Trippier’s representatives have begun.
The 30-year-old has spent the past two seasons playing for Atletico after leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2019.
He was recently crowned La Liga champion and made it into England’s European Championship squad.
Gareth Southgate has always been a big fan of Trippier, who said the right-back was ‘like a soldier’ following a 2-1 win over Belgium last year (via the Independent).
Despite his success in Madrid, the former Spurs man might be waving farewell to Spain.

Why Trippier could move to Manchester
Manchester United are looking to bolster their defensive options.
In particular, they want added competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka down the right flank.
Trippier would be a steady and experienced option with a wealth of Premier League knowledge.
Plus, there might be an added incentive towards an Old Trafford transfer.
Sources from The Athletic state that Trippier is looking for a house in the Manchester region, the area he was raised in.
Born in Bury, he played for Manchester City in his youth then Burnley for a large stint of his career.

And United might not have to pay over the odds for him either.
The Athletic say that a £10m fee for Trippier had been mentioned, although they believed the figure was slightly too minimal.
