According to The Mirror, Manchester United have failed in a £19m bid to sign Borussia Dortmund’s impressive playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Red Devils made their first signing of the Jose Mourinho era last week, as Villarreal’s star defender Eric Bailly joined the club in a surprise deal.
Mourinho may be keen to add options in the final third though, and it seems that he is looking to raid Borussia Dortmund for one of their key players.
The Mirror report that United have submitted a £19m bid for Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan – but the German giants have rejected United’s opening offer.
Mkhitaryan, 27, was a 2013 signing from Shakhtar Donetsk, and has starred in the Bundesliga, hitting 17 goals in his first two seasons before a stunning campaign under Thomas Tuchel last term.
The Armenian international hit 23 goals and 20 assists for Dortmund this past season, becoming a key player in a devastating attack alongside Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Now with just one year left on his contract at Signal Iduna Park, Mkhitaryan may be looking to leave Dortmund for a move to the Premier League this summer, with United seemingly keen to sign him to boost their attacking options either out wide or as a central playmaker.
However, with Dortmund having already lost Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan this summer, they aren’t keen to let Mkhitaryan go, and have snubbed United’s £19m offer – despite the fact that he can leave the club for free next summer.
