Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the West Ham United defender.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United could be set to make a January move for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop, but the Frenchman would command a fee in excess of £60 million.

The 21-year-old joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £22 million, and he has gone on to establish himself as one of Manuel Pellegrini’s most important players, making 19 appearances in all competitions.

The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United have scouted the centre-back, and are keen to bring him to Old Trafford, but they would have to pay nearly treble the amount that West Ham parted with for his services six months ago.

Good signing for United?

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Diop cuts an imposing figure, and he is incredibly strong and commanding in the air – something that United have desperately lacked in central defence recently.

The France under-21 international is still slightly rough around the edges, however, and it could be argued that the Red Devils need a ready-made, more complete centre-back in January.

Diop undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him, however, and he could go on to be a legend at Old Trafford, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does in fact manage to prise him away from the London Stadium next month.

West Ham will obviously want to keep hold of him, but they might just find it hard to resist any potential overtures made by United, especially if they offer anywhere near the reported figure of £60 million.
