Manchester United are interested in signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

It has been reported that United manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a £35 million move for Dier, who can operate as a defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Jose Mourinho, who was appointed the Red Devils manager in the summer of 2016, is claimed to be a huge fan of the 23-year-old.

“SunSport understands Mourinho was planning to make a swoop for the ex-Sporting Lisbon ace in January,” adds the report in The Sun.

“But Spurs instantly rejected all talk of a transfer and were prepared to reject any offers in excess of £45m for one of their star men.

“Mauricio Pochettino sees the versatile defender as a key part of Tottenham‘s future and is adamant he is not for sale.”

Dier is one of the best and most important players in the current Tottenham team and is playing well at the moment.

The England international joined Spurs from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by The Sun to be worth £4 million.

The 23-year-old would be a good signing for United, but would Tottenham be willing to part company with him even for £35m? Probably not.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment, while United are currently sixth in the standings and can still finish the season in the Champions League places.
