Jose Mourinho is expected to splash the cash over the summer to strengthen Manchester United.
Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to Old Trafford
The Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester United are exploring the extraordinary possibility of bringing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to Old Trafford.
The newspaper claim United have made two approaches during the last three weeks, to gauge whether their interest in the Argentine could lead to something more concrete.
The 28-year-old five-time Ballon d’Or winner is widely regarded as the best player in the world, and any kind of move for him would require an astronomical transfer fee combined with an extortionate salary.
Lionel Messi in action
He has been involved with the Barcelona first team since 2004, and has scored an incredible 453 goals in 531 appearances. He has also chipped in with 178 assists.
If the hierarchy at Old Trafford were to pull of a deal of this magnetite, it would surely turn them into instant title contenders.
However, should Barcelona ever decide to sell Messi, surely Pep Guardiola at Manchester City would move for his former talisman. The Spaniard managed the Argentine for four years when he was in charge at the Camp Nou, and with funds not being an issue at the Etihad, surely they would try and prevent their arch rivals from acquiring the world’s best player.
