Manchester United have been linked with a potential new goalkeeper should David de Gea move on.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Manchester United have made an enquiry about the prospect of signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

The report comes as doubts continue about the long-term future of United’s current number one David de Gea.

With a little over a year left on his current deal, United will desperately want the Spaniard to put pen to paper on a new contract, but if he does not they will need to look at alternatives sooner rather than later.

As a result, United are said to have looked into the possibility of signing Handanovic as a contingency plan if they do lose their outstanding young ‘keeper.

Handanovic is a 30-year-old Slovenian international who has made 120 appearances for Inter to date.

He previously played 212 matches for Udinese and he has both the talent and the experience to be a success at Old Trafford should United ultimately come calling with a firm offer.

With just a year left on his own contract, his future is currently as unclear as De Gea’s, and only time will tell who United have between the sticks for the coming campaigns.
