Manchester City ready to offer £25m for Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand after missing out on Dani Alves to PSG.
After the disappointment of losing out on Dani Alves to Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City want to push ahead with a deal for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand – according to the Daily Mail.
Alves decided to join PSG ahead of City late on, with the Guardian reporting the Ligue 1 giants offering the Brazilian wages of £230,000-a-week – more than double the £120,000-a-week that the Premier League outfit were prepared to pay.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola
It means that manager Pep Guardiola is yet to add any new full-backs to his squad this summer, despite losing Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta at the end of last season when the trio were not offered new contracts.
That is why Guardiola is keen to push through a move for Bertrand and the Citizens are expected to offer around £25m to tempt the Saints into selling.
The 27-year-old has been a regular at St Mary’s since joining the Hampshire club – initially on loan – from Chelsea in the summer of 2014, making 107 appearances in all competitions since.
Man City are also still believed to be on the hunt for Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy and Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker.
