Manchester City are showing an interest in signing Brentford defender Aaron Hickey just two years since Celtic missed out.

The Scottish Sun report that City are looking to finally sign Hickey this summer after years of rumours.

City have been linked with Hickey going way back to his time at Hearts and the interest hasn’t gone away.

Pep Guardiola’s men want to bring in another full back this summer and had been heavily linked with Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.

City allegedly prefer Hickey though and a £30million summer deal is being eyed.

Hickey’s ability to play at left and right back may well appeal to City, who could sell Joao Cancelo this summer.

Hickey makes sense to take Cancelo’s role even if the 20-year-old is far from the finished product right now.

Brentford paid £14million to sign Hickey from Bologna last summer and could now double that price with a sale to City.

Aaron Hickey rise will be tough for Celtic to swallow

Celtic have been connected to Hickey for a while now.

The versatile defender started out with Hearts before joining the Celtic ranks back in 2014.

After four years with the Bhoys, Hickey returned to Hearts and ended up becoming a first-team regular.

Whilst a move to Bologna materialised in 2020, a move to Celtic was rumoured just a couple of years ago.

The Scottish Sun reported in 2021 that Celtic had offered £3.5million to sign Hickey from Bologna.

The bid failed and Hickey ended up being sold to Brentford for four times that price just a year later.

Celtic may be left kicking themselves now as Hickey is not only impressing in the Premier League but is now wanted by City in a huge £30million move.

Celtic’s recruitment has been absolutely spot on in recent times but missing out on Hickey may be one source of annoyance for the Bhoys.
