According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are interested in landing Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as they consider life after Sergio Aguero.

It’s claimed that City are in the market for a striker even if Aguero stays, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems likely that he will go as things stand.

Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland is one target, but City are also considering a swoop for Benfica ace Nunez.

Nunez, 21, starred in Spain’s second tier last season with Almeria, and made the move to Benfica last summer, where he has thrived.

The Uruguayan ace has bagged eight goals and eight assists in 22 games this season, and his performances are understandably attracting interest.

Nunez has been backed to eclipse the £113million Benfica sold Joao Felix for in 2019, with boss Jorge Jesus raving about his displays.

City may have to dig deep to sign Nunez if they want him, and he isn’t a direct replacement for Aguero; Nunez is taller and a more classic centre forward.

Still, he’s young and has huge potential, meaning Pep Guardiola may well see Nunez as the future of City’s attack alongside Gabriel Jesus.
