Football website 90Min claim Manchester City want to sign Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio on a free transfer with title rivals Arsenal also in the race for the Spain star – along with seven other European heavyweights this summer.
Asensio, 27, does not look as though he will be signing a new deal at Real Madrid. Having clocked up 267 outings for Madrid, having a hand in 85 goals – he is looking for a new challenge. Asensio is available on a free transfer right now.
The report states that Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are all admirers for the 35-time Spain ace. However, the trio from the Premier League are not alone. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, Bayern Munich and Marseille.
Manchester City are not often renowned for signing players on free transfers, normally preferring to spend big on their transfer targets. But, the addition of Asensio on a free transfer is clearly attracting Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

Manchester City want Real Madrid playmaker Asensio on a free
Asensio’s best move financially is likely to be that of a club in the Premier League – or either Bayern Munich or PSG. Juventus, Marseille and Barcelona can instantly be ruled out in terms of cash. Atletico Madrid also seems unlikely.
Chelsea have a number of attacking options in Asensio’s position but if Joao Felix is not signed permanently and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaves, Asensio is needed. But Chelsea look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.
A move to Arsenal or City would suit Asensio, then. But so would PSG and Bayern – or, signing a new deal with Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Plenty to think about over the next few weeks for the Spain ace, with a big summer on the horizon.
