Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares has reportedly received shock interest from Manchester City.
Despite some high-profile errors, Tavares has looked a real bargain for Arsenal since joining in an £8 million deal as recently as July.
With electric pace and powerful running, the Portuguese youngster is a full-back version of Thierry Henry.
And according to ESPN, Manchester City are interested in signing the 21-year-old.
The report adds that although the Sky Blues are watching the player, a January approach to Arsenal is very unlikely.
Silly season?
Remember, this time of the year – i.e on the cusp of a transfer window opening – is often referred to as ‘silly season’.
And honestly, it would be easy to file this Arsenal – Manchester City story under ‘things that simply won’t happen’.
However, as mentioned, Tavares does indeed have the sort of attributes which you can see a manager like Pep Guardiola admiring.
The Citizens manager clearly does like an attacking full-back but, obviously, he has to be able to defend, too.
For now, the Arsenal rocket is majorly lacking in that department but as an attacker, he is one hell of a talent and if Mikel Arteta – once Guardiola’s assistant – can improve his defending, the Gunners have a potential gem on their hands.
A transfer is still unlikely, even next summer, but you can see why Manchester City may be interested.
