The Blues reportedly value Wilshere at £30 million and are considering a bid.
Liverpool have apparently dug their heels in over the sale of Raheem Sterling, with the Merseyside club said to be holding out for £50 million.
Manchester City are believed to have offered £40 million, as per the Mirror, and it is unclear whether they will be willing to meet the Reds’ demands.
City may now look elsewhere in their quest to build a squad capable of wrenching the title back from Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. One such player could be Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
The 23-year old reclaimed the public’s attention with two stunning strikes for England last Sunday and The Mirror suggests City are among those casting admiring glances.

City’s need to add to their home-grown quota is well known, with James Milner’s departure leaving Joe Hart as their only significant English presence (veteran goalkeeper Richard Wright is yet to make an appearance for the club).
According to the Mirror, they have secured the signing of young England starlet Patrick Roberts and the addition of Sterling or Wilshere into the fray would further aid in meeting FA requirements.
On the field, Wilshere would add much needed guile and creativity from a deeper position after underwhelming showings from Fernando and Fernandinho. At 32, Yaya Toure’s influence could start to wane and in Wilshere, City could have a player ready to take up the mantle.
