Manchester City will reportedly hand Ilkay Gundogan a new contract to remain with the club following reports that Arsenal and Juventus want to sign the German midfielder.
According to the Daily Star, the reigning Premier League champions are eager to keep the newly-appointed club captain at the Etihad Stadium beyond next summer, with Gundogan’s current contract set to expire in 2023, yet Arsenal and Juventus are both reportedly interested in signing the 31-year-old.
As per the report, though, City have no intention of letting Gundogan leave in the coming years, with the former Borussia Dortmund star viewed as a key long-term player for Pep Guardiola’s squad, though this has not stopped Arsenal or Juventus from making a potential move to sign the midfielder.
The north London side, in particular, have already signed two players from City this summer in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinechenko, yet for Gundogan, it is likely that handing the German maestro a new contract will be more than enough to deter Arsenal from signing the four-time Premier League champion.
Indeed, Gundogan was huge for City last season in the title-winning game against Aston Villa on the last day of the Premier League campaign, with the midfielder coming off the bench to assist and score in the final minutes to win Guardiola the championship from Liverpool.
And now, City look prepared to repay Gundogan in a big way with a huge new contract, with the midfielder one of the club’s best servants since arriving from Dortmund all the way back in 2016, with the Manchester giants only signing the former Bundesliga star for £20m as per the Daily Star.
Signing Gundogan to a new City contract will be huge for all parties

Gundogan has established himself over the years as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders and a cult hero at City, and the club signing the midfielder to a new contract, despite his age, will be a huge development for all parties involved as well as for the Manchester giants’ future.
After all, Gundogan is getting better with age, and keeping the German maestro for the future will be key for the development of many of the club’s youngest players as well as maintaining a leader in the squad and on the pitch for many years to come.
