According to reports from The Times, Manchester City are preparing a massive £100 million deal (transfer fee and wages) for Southampton defender, Virgil van Dijk, in the summer transfer window.
The report suggests that Man City are ready to pay over £50 million, and offer the Dutchman a five-year contract worth around £180,000 per week, nearly four times his present salary.
City finished third in the Premier League in Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge. The Spaniard seeks to overhaul his squad and he is ready to bring in at least six new faces.
Van Dijk has established himself as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League since moving from Celtic two years ago.

He has no shortage of admirers with Chelsea and Liverpool both vying for his signature.
According to reports from The Mirror, Van Dijk is Liverpool’s one of top transfer targets, and the Reds are willing to pay as much as £200,000 a week in order to persuade him to move to Merseyside.
The report says that Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign him, and Van Dijk is the only centre-back he wants.

Losing out on Van Dijk would be a blow for Liverpool, as they aim to mount a strong title challenge next season.
Guardiola, meanwhile, wants the Dutch defender to partner John Stones, whom City bought for £47.5 million from Everton last summer.
