Manchester City’s signing of John Stones from Everton could have a huge impact on Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandinho.

Manchester City are ready to listen to offers for Eliaquim Mangala after John Stones’ arrival from Everton, according to Sky Sports.

The former Porto defender, who City signed for £32 million in 2014, has been left out of Pep Guardiola’s Champions League squad for next season alongside transfer-listed duo Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasir.

And City’s subsequent signing of Everton centre-back Stones (below) has pushed Mangala further down the pecking order at the Etihad, with Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi also competing for a starting berth.

Mangala endured a torrid two years in England, failing to settle after scoring a calamitous own goal in only his second appearance against Hull City.

The France international quickly became something of a scapegoat among City fans and a figure of ridicule among rival supporters, another own goal in City’s 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool in November coming just a month before a shocking performance in the pre-Christmas defeat to Arsenal.

And new City boss Guardiola admitted last week that the club may look to cash in on the centre-half, with Valencia reportedly keen to sign Mangala on loan as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Shkodran Mustafi (below, centre), according to the Evening Standard.

Mangala’s departure could have an interesting effect on Fernandinho’s future at Manchester City, with Guardiola apparently keen on converting the versatile Brazilian into a central-defender a la Javier Mascherano at Barcelona.

“[Fernandinho] could play at centre back,” the Catalan told a news conference last month, as reported by ESPN. “He’s a quick, fast player, so intelligent, aggressive and strong in the air.

“He has the quality to create good build-up. We think he can play there — maybe Fernando too but he’s not as quick. I like midfielders to play at centre back because they can play good passes.”
