The Argentine defender is hot property, with Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea all also being linked with a move for the defender.
Manchester City have been in contact with Valencia over Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi, reports Super Deporte.
According to the report, both City and fierce rivals Manchester United both met with the club about a potential move for the defender, while his agent has also been in constant contact with the clubs to push forward a move.
And it seems to have worked, with both Manchester sides ready to make a formal offer to his club at some point this week. It seems though, that they will face stern competition for his signature.
According to Super Deporte, the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Premier League rivals Chelsea are all also interested in a move for the Argentine, with it claiming all of his suitors will offer him wages between £2.4 and £2.7 million in wages.
Of all the clubs linked, it is arguably Manchester United who need Otamendi the most.
Louis van Gaal’s side have been busy so far this summer but are yet to bring in defensive recruits despite that easily being their weakest position. They currently have Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as first choice, with Marcos Rojo also in the squad.
Neither of those three were particularly convincing last season though, and beyond them there are only youngsters available for the manager to choose from.
Otamendi would prove an instant improvement in that department, suggesting United will likely be team that pushes hardest for his signature.
