According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are now set to hand John Stones a new contract to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
It’s claimed that City want to give the defender fresh terms after he forced his way back into Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup in recent weeks.
Stones appears to be first-choice alongside Ruben Dias right now, keeping the likes of Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake out of the side.
The 26-year-old has bene a standout performer over the last month, and may now have hopes of forcing his way back in to the England setup.
Gareth Southgate will have big decisions to make ahead of the European Championships, and Stones is making himself impossible to ignore right now.
It’s quite the turnaround for Stones, who could have left City for Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, but rejected them according to the Daily Star.

Tottenham may have still had Stones on their radar for a move in 2021, but a new contract would all but kill off any lingering hopes.
Had City sold Stones, they would have taken a huge loss on the £47.5million they paid for him in 2016; now though, his value is returning and City want to lock him down for years to come in one of the season’s success stories.
