Manchester City are now focusing on signing Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga after backing away from Declan Rice.

Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga is becoming a top target for Manchester City amid links to Arsenal and Liverpool.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that City have ‘entered the race’ to sign Veiga.

It’s suggested that Veiga is now one of the top options for City as they chase another midfielder.

Ilkay Gündoğan has moved on whilst City decided to pull out of the race for Declan Rice, who is now heading for Arsenal.

Mateo Kovacic is in but City still want another midfielder and are now turning to Veiga as an alternative to Rice.

Romano adds that Chelsea and Liverpool remain interested in signing Veiga but City are now ‘informed’ on deal.

Veiga’s release clause stands at €40million (£35million) and a departure from Celta is widely expected this summer.

Gabri Veiga can add goal threat for Manchester City

Veiga was the breakout star of the season over in La Liga.

The 21-year-old racked up 11 goals and four assists in 36 league games for Celta, emerging as a potential superstar.

Veiga even scored twice against Barcelona on the final day of the season to secure safety for Celta.

The youngster looks set to become a sensation in the coming years and it’s no surprise that City have joined the race.

Pep Guardiola will be well aware of Veiga’s rise in Spain and may believe that he can turn the Celta starlet into a regular goalscoring talent.

Veiga isn’t short of interest and there were even links to Arsenal before they pushed on for Rice.

Faro de Vigo reported in April that Arsenal were Veiga’s top choice for a summer move as Mikel Arteta showed an interest.

Veiga could still end up in the Premier League with City rather than Arsenal – and he will be much cheaper than the aforementioned Rice.
