Manchester City could spend big on Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola has made Leicester City’s Harry Maguire his top target to replace outgoing Manchester City hero Vincent Kompany.

City clinched a remarkably domestic treble by hammerng Watford 6-0 in the FA Cup final on Saturday, but Kompany announced his exit just hours later.

City’s inspirational captain and leader confirmed he is leaving when his contract expires this summer, and is heading back to former club Anderlecht as player/manager.

Guardiola still has Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi at his disposal, but Kompany’s exit undoubtedly leaves a big hole to fill – and City appear to be zeroing in on Maguire.

The Daily Mail report that Guardiola has made Maguire his top target, and even spoke to him on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium when City beat Leicester 1-0 just weeks ago.

It’s understood that Guardiola praised Maguire’s performance and expressed his admiration for the England defender, who has starred for the Foxes since signing from Hull City in 2017.

The report notes that Leicester may even demand more than the £75million Liverpool paid to sign Virgil van Dijk, using the Dutchman’s move as a basis for their demands, believing Maguire’s age – 26 – and homegrown status will bring in huge money.

Maguire’s size and defensive ability is key, but his ability to dribble with the ball will no doubt impress Guardiola, and a year after selling Riyad Mahrez to City, Leicester may find that Guardiola comes calling for another Foxes star this summer.
