Report: Manchester City hijacking Liverpool’s interest in Thomas Lemar

Manchester City are reportedly rivalling Liverpool for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are preparing a bid to lure Monaco winger Thomas Lemar to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

City may be coasting to the Premier League title, but manager Pep Guardiola isn’t stopping his attempts to improve his squad at the end of the season.

Now only is it claimed that City are expected to tie up a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, but they are now pursuing Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Lemar could cost somewhere in the region of £90million after interest from Arsenal last year, but City may now make their move, potentially reuniting him with ex-Monaco teammates Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva.

Liverpool to be hijacked?

It’s noted that there have been claims of Liverpool being close to a deal for Lemar, but City are now thought to be preparing to hijack their interest.

City attempted to bring in Alexis Sanchez and Riyad Mahrez in January to no avail, with manager Guardiola still keen to bring in another winger.

Guardiola does have Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling at his disposal, whilst Bernardo Silva can also feature out wide, but bringing in another natural wide man with pace would make City even more dangerous going forward.

French international Lemar fits the bill, and the Premier League champions-elect may now hope to pip Liverpool to his signature with a blockbuster bid this summer.
