According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are interested in signing 16-year-old Stoke prodigy Emre Tezgel, who has been likened to Harry Kane.

What’s the story?

Well, the Citizens have been alerted to Tezgel’s talents after his stunning start to the season for Stoke’s Under-18 side.

The wonderkid has scored seven goals in four Premier League 2 outings, including a hat-trick against Liverpool U18’s on the opening day.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also eyeing the Burton-born goal machine, according to the Daily Mail.

Tezgel only turned 16 in September, but he was still invited to train with Stoke’s U23’s as a 15-year-old, which speaks volumes.

During the September international break, the Potters gem also scored four goals in three games for England’s U17’s as they reached the Syrenka Cup final in Poland, where they sadly lost 3-2 to the Netherlands.

Pep Guardiola failed to get his hands on the actual Harry Kane over the summer, so it seems he’s turned his attention to Harry Kane 2.0.

It was Stoke’s Academy Director Gareth Owen who described Tezgel as “a Harry Kane-type forward” – high praise indeed.

The Daily Mail quote him as saying: “He’s a Harry Kane-type centre-forward. His movement is good, he can hold the ball up and he is decent in the air. His main attribute, though, is his finishing and that’s what good centre-forwards have.”

In our view, Tezgel should stay away from Manchester City.

With all due respect to the Citizens, Guardiola just doesn’t give enough chances to academy products.

Only in the Carabao Cup do the likes of Liam Delap and Josh Wilson-Esbrand get opportunities, and even if they impress, they don’t see any Premier League action afterwards.

Phil Foden is a rare exception, although his talent is impossible to ignore.

Hopefully, Tezgel can fulfil his potential, and we’ll see him shining at Manchester City once he becomes the finished article.
