Manuel Pellegrini’s side are said to have been tracking the Sevilla defender for some time.

Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a move for Sevilla defender Jose Maria Amo, according to the Mirror.

The 17-year-old is highly regarded in Spain and considered to be one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football, with some going as far as to label him the ‘next Sergio Ramos’.

City have been keeping track of the player for some time, since he caught the eye playing for the Spain Under-16 team in 2014, and the club had representatives watching him when he turned out for Sevilla Atletico against Marbella in the Spanish Second Division, according to the Mirror.

If City do have plans to secure the youngster though, they may have to move quickly in order to do so.

He is currently only on an amateur contract with his Spanish employers, but the club’s directors have already opened contract talks with the player’s agent in an effort to fend off interest from Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and elsewhere.

The reported interest would make sense from City, though, as they have shown a desire to scout talented youngsters and bring them to the Etihad to be developed for the future.
