Manchester City are reportedly set to tie up the signing of goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
According to the Irish Independent, Manchester City have beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu after striking a €400,000 (£360,000) deal.
Bazunu, 16, has emerged as one of the top young goalkeepers in the game having broken into the Shamrock Rovers first team in July, making headlines with four clean sheets in a row.
The Irishman, who has even played two Europa League qualifying games, has unsurprisingly attracted interest off the back of his early exploits with Rovers, and a move to England has been expected.
Now, the Irish Independent report that Manchester City have agreed a €400,000 (£360,000) deal to sign Bazunu, finding an agreement on Friday before inviting the teenager and his family to Sunday’s 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town.
The report adds that Tottenham Hotspur did make a bid for Bazunu, but have been ‘easily outbid’ by City, which must make fans wonder just how much Spurs were offering if the deal came to just £360,000 in the end.
Bazunu will move to City when he turns 17 in February, and the promise of developing at City’s state of the art facilities and under a manager like Pep Guardiola will have no doubt been hugely appealing to the 16-year-old.
If the story is true, then it’s more transfer woe for Spurs, who failed to bring in a single new signings during this summer’s transfer window, which left fans hugely disappointed.
Now, City appear to have beaten them to Bazunu, and the finger of blame may again be pointed at Levy having been blown out of the water by City in what appears to be a relatively cheap deal for any Premier League club.
