According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are considering activating their buy-back clause on Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo.

It’s claimed that Stoke City have agreed to take Matondo on loan, and has even passed a medical ahead of his move to the Potters.

However, City can buy Matondo back for £6.5million, which is somehow just half of what they sold him for in 2019.

City seemingly feel that this could be great value in the current market, and would then still allow him to go on loan to Stoke.

Pep Guardiola’s men struck a similar deal to re-sign Angelino from PSV Eindhoven in 2019, though he is now out on loan at RB Leipzig.

Matondo was compared to Leroy Sane in 2019 thanks to his blistering pace and direct running style, but he hasn’t quite kicked on at Schalke.

The Welsh international has only scored twice in 32 games for Schalke, and has made only three Bundesliga appearances this season.

The 20-year-old’s move to Stoke is now on hold until City decide what to do with this buy-back clause, which seems like it could be a bargain.
