The Telegraph claim Manchester City are still interested in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney – but will only pursue a move for the Scotland international towards the end of the current transfer window.

Reports earlier this summer said that Arsenal defender Tierney is a target for Manchester City. That is, despite numerous injuries since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2019. It has limited him to just 88 Arsenal outings.

But in those 88 games, he has had a hand in 16 goals – scoring four and creating 12. So, the quality is there, and Manchester City need a left-back. The Premier League champions missed out on Marc Cucurella, joining Chelsea.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has moved to Arsenal and started above Tierney at left-back on Friday night, as the Gunners beat Crystal Palace 2-0. He could move in the opposite direction, but Manchester City are taking their time over a move.

Indeed, Pep Guardiola’s side are likely to pursue other options – even though they are close to signing Sergio Gomez. He is likely to go out on loan. But if they cannot find the right player, they will go after Tierney later this month.

Now, Manchester City need a left-back. Joao Cancelo played against West Ham at left-back on Sunday. Tierney certainly has the quality and many believe he could be a future captain of Arsenal, given his attitude and intensity.

But his injury issues are a concern. Do The Gunners continue to place their faith in him? The signing of Zinchenko suggests they do not trust him entirely, and he is now second choice but strangely, he would be first choice at City.

Costing Arsenal £25million, Tierney has four years left on his £75,000-a-week contract. It is unclear how much Arsenal would want, but it would certainly be north of the fee they paid. One to keep an eye on in the next three weeks.
