Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were linked with Sergio Gomez earlier this summer, but it seems that it is Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who are about to sign the Anderlecht star in the transfer window.
Arsenal linked with Manchester City target Sergio Gomez
On July 14, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Arsenal were exploring the possibility of signing Gomez from Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.
The well-known and well-respected journalist added that the Gunners also had Oleksandr Zinchenko on their radar.
The North London club were on the hunt for a left-back at the time.
As we know, Arsenal eventually signed Ukraine international Zinchenko, who can operate as a left-back and in midfield.

Set for Etihad Stadium move
And now Fabrizio Romano is reporting on Twitter that defending Premier League champions Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Gomez, who, like Zinchenko, can also play in midfield.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that City and Anderlecht are close to getting the final details of the deal sorted, adding that the Citizens could keep the Spain Under-21 at the club for this season instead of sending him out on loan to Girona.
Gomez made 39 appearances in the Belgian league for Anderlecht last season.
The youngster scored six goals and gave 11 assists in those matches.
