Manchester City will reportedly reserve Sergio Aguero’s vacant number 10 shirt for Harry Kane rather than for Jack Grealish.
According to the Telegraph, the Premier League champions are preparing to hand the number to the Tottenham striker should he sign for City.
Both Kane and Grealish currently wear number 10 for Spurs and Aston Villa respectively.
Aguero wore the number for multiple years at City as the Argentine became the club’s record goalscorer.
Some fans had speculated that Phil Foden would take the shirt given his position and homegrown status. However, it now appears that Kane will be the successor to Aguero’s number 10.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Grealish is set to become City’s record signing as well as the most expensive British player ever. The England international will join Pep Guardiola’s side in a £100m deal.
As for Kane, it is looking unlikely that the Tottenham star will join the five-time Premier League champions this summer.
The attacker has missed pre-season training this week. Though the Athletic report that it will take an astronomical bid for Daniel Levy to even consider selling the 28-year-old.
Indeed, with City needing a striker this window, Kane would be the perfect attacker to replace the void left by Aguero since his departure this summer.
And the club reserving the number 10 shirt for him is an indicator that Guardiola’s side are not giving up on signing the Premier League superstar.
