According to Bild, Manchester City and Chelsea are now the favourites to sign Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

Why Manchester City or Chelsea could beat Liverpool to Jude Bellingham

Well, the German news outlet believe the Citizens and the Blues now front the queue to sign the England international, who is almost certain to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2023.

Bild state that both Manchester City and Chelsea have the financial muscle to afford Bellingham – something James Pearce of The Athletic has raised doubts about at Anfield.

Borussia Dortmund are said to want £130m for the 19-year-old sensation.

The update comes after Marca revealed that Real Madrid have been laying down the foundations to sign Bellingham for the past 12 months, and are now ready to discuss financial figures with Borussia Dortmund.

Speculation about the Birmingham-born wonderkid has intensified recently, as he takes his game up a notch.

On Wednesday, Bellingham became the first English teenager to start a Champions League game as captain, while he also became the first English teenager to score in three successive Champions League appearances.

Liverpool must improve amid Manchester City & Chelsea interest

Putting aside financial figures, Liverpool have to turn their season around if they are to have any hope of signing Bellingham in 2023.

Bild state that the £49,000-a-week man will only leave Borussia Dortmund for an ‘absolute top club’ – therefore, Liverpool must ensure they achieve qualification for the Champions League, at least.

Bellingham is on top of the world at the moment, and we highly doubt he would take a step down into the Europa League to join Liverpool when juggernauts such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are ready to pay up.

A lot needs to happen both financially and competitively for the Reds to sign Bellingham – Jürgen Klopp only has control of the latter, so he must get his side firing again in the Premier League as they currently sit ninth.
