Groningen will demand a minimum of £6 million for Gabriel Gudmundsson as Manchester City identify the Sweden U21 international as a shock transfer target, as reported by AreaNapoli.
Few at the Euroborg would have expected, when they snapped up a little-known teenager from Halmstads in 2019, that they would be fielding offers from Manchester City, RB Leipzig, Napoli, Dortmund and more just two years later.
Gudmundsson’s rapid rise has certainly taken plenty by surprise in the Netherlands.
The 21-year-old has come out of nowhere to become one of the most coveted players in the whole of the Eredivisie, with his pinpoint crossing ability and dextrous dribbling skills earning admiring glances from some of the biggest clubs on the continent.
Voetbal International reports that Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders are battling Dortmund and Napoli for Gudmundsson’s suddenly sought-after signature.

But how much would Groningnen demand for their Malmo-born wideman?
According to reports in Italy, the Green and Whites want at least £6 million – a fee that would make Gudmundsson the second-biggest sale in the club’s history, 12 years after a young Marcus Berg left Holland for Hamburg.
£6 million is mere pocket change for City these days, of course.
And while Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko have proved themselves more than capable of adapting to life at left-back, Gudmundsson would give Guardiola a more natural, left-footed option in what has become something of a problem position for the league leaders.
