Manchester City have snapped up Aston Villa youngster Kane Taylor.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool have missed out on Aston Villa teenager Kane Taylor, as Manchester City have signed him instead.
Taylor, 14, de-registered from Aston Villa’s youth academy last season, making himself available to join another club – and there was plenty of interest.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were keen, and Liverpool pushed hard to sign him, but he has instead chosen to sign for Manchester City instead.
Thanks to the Elite Player Performance Plan tariffs, City have paid just £129,000 in compensation to sign Taylor, giving Villa a small fee for his services.
Taylor, a left-footed midfielder, will now go and join City’s Under-16’s next season, and will look to develop his game in a bid to play for Pep Guardiola’s first team in the future.
Teenagers Darko Gyabi and Daniel Ogwuru have made similar moves to City recently, and they’re just more moves to try and bring in a host of top young English talent for the long term.
Liverpool and City are the main title rivals in the Premier League, and whilst it’s not a huge win over the Reds, City will at least take some enjoyment from pipping Liverpool to his signing.
Still, Liverpool won the race for Harvey Elliott, so won’t be too disappointed here, and will just have to hope that Taylor doesn’t develop into a player that can hamper their title hopes in the future.
