Erik ten Hag is said to be just ‘one step away’ from taking over at Tottenham Hotspur by Il Messaggero.
Ten Hag has been a prominent candidate at Tottenham ever since Jose Mourinho’s departure.
The Dutchman, who has 244 career wins, originally appeared to be one of Spurs’ first choice candidates for the job, but Ajax quickly activated an extension in his contract.
At that stage Tottenham then seemed to look at both Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, but talks with those managers were not successful.
Now reports in Italy say that Ten Hag is the man closest to the Tottenham job.
Indeed, Il Messaggero say that the 51-year-old is now just ‘one step away’ from taking over.
That is interesting as Alasdair Gold had suggested that Tottenham may look at other candidates with Fabio Paratici set to take the job as sporting director.

A good fit?
Ten Hag is believed to be one of Steve Hitchen’s choices to get the job, but Italian sources suggest that Paratici also views him as a strong candidate.
If Tottenham do go for Ten Hag then he would be the sort of manager to fit with the principles Daniel Levy originally suggested that he would be looking for.
Ten Hag promotes attacking football, which has won him multiple titles in Holland.
He is also renowned as being a manager who can bring players through, with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Matthijs de Ligt and Luuk De Jong all developing hugely under his stewardship – and that could suit Spurs who looking for a long term project.
