Diego Simeone wants Lucas Torreira to return to Arsenal at the end of the season, according to El Gol Digital.

Torreira joined Atletico Madrid on loan from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

The Uruguay international defensive midfielder has failed to make a massive impact at the Spanish club, and manager Simeone has reportedly told Atletico not to sign him on a permanent basis.

According to WhoScored, the 25-year-old defensive midfielder has made three starts and 12 substitute appearances in La Liga for Atletico this season, scoring one goal in the process.

Torreira also played 40 minutes in the Champions League for Atleti this campaign, according to WhoScored.

No future at Arsenal?

Torreira does not appear to have a future at Arsenal. After all, if manager Mikel Arteta rated him highly, then he would not have let the Uruguayan leave on loan last summer.

Despite his struggles and lack of playing time at Atletico this season, the 25-year-old remains a very good player who could have teams interested in him in the summer of 2021 if Arsenal are willing to sell him for a reasonable price.
