Luis Diaz looks set to join Liverpool this winter.

Widespread reports indicate that the Porto attacker will be Liverpool’s first – and probably last – signing of the January transfer window.

However, considering he’s going to cost the Reds a cool £50 million, well signing one player is acceptable if it’s a big player.

And Diaz definitely falls under that bracket.

With 16 goals and six assists across all competitions for the Portuguese giants, the 25-year-old is a massive asset for manager Sergio Conceicao – and that’s why he’s reportedly unhappy.

Diaz – who will join Liverpool imminently, according to Fabrizio Romano – has been sold to the Anfield outfit without the manager’s consent.

That’s what A Bola reported on Friday, that a deal for the Colombia international was made without the head coach’s approval.

As a result, Conceicao is reportedly ‘displeased’ to say the least.

Money talks

Unfortunately for the Porto coach, money talks and when we’re talking about £50 million, such a decision will be made way over his head. Everytime.

Yes he’s the manager, but Jurgen Klopp, for instance, might not have been able to dictate whether Liverpool turned down £120 million for Philippe Coutinho four years ago.

That would’ve been FSG’s call and the same principle applies at any club when it comes to massive money – and £50 million in Porto’s case is one hell of a sum.
