Wolves manager Bruno Lage is a big fan of Goncalo Ramos but Benfica counterpart Jorge Jesus is determined to stop the striker heading to the Premier League, as reported by Record and A Bola.

As soon as Lage was unveiled as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement, Benfica must have known they were in for a difficult couple of weeks.

The new Wolves boss tasted Primeira Liga glory with the Lisbon giants two years ago, and it seems he’s now planning to return to the Estadio da Luz for one of the most exciting young forwards in Portuguese football.

20-year-old Goncalo Ramos was still playing for Benfica’s B team when Lage took the top job in January 2019.

But since forcing his way into the first-team fixture, the lethal number nine has found the net at a remarkable rate.

In five league games, Ramos has scored four times. In all competitions, that tally rises to six in 13.

Can Goncalo Ramos thrive where Fabio Silva struggled at Wolves?

With Benfica under pressure to raise around £60 million in player sales before the end of the month, plenty of column inches have been dedicated to Ramos’s future in Iberia.

Record reports that Wolverhampton Wanderers have made an approach, under instruction from Lage.

According to A Bola, however, the ever-demanding Jorge Jesus is not going to let Ramos go without a fight.

The fork-tongued tactician has asked Benfica to block Ramos’s exit, in the hope that the Portugal U19 international will complete his transformation into a first-team regular next season.

What Jesus wants, Jesus usually gets. And A Bola believe that Benfica will grant his wish – at least, that is the plan for now. With the financial pressures growing and £60 million still missing from the budget, a big bid from Wolves could change everything.

And it is not as if Wolves don’t have a track record when it comes to paying huge sums for Portuguese teenagers.
