Could Manchester United be about to make a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Marten De Roon?

It seems as if the future of Marten De Roon lies away from Middlesbrough following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

After just a year in England, Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web says that Atalanta are keen to bring the midfielder back to Serie A.

De Roon was signed by Boro from La Dea in the summer of 2016 and the report says they would be keen to re-sign him; although his wages of around £35,000-a-week and asking price of £10.6m may prove to be too much.

While it is believed the North East club would accept £8.8m and the Dutchman would lower his wage demands for Atalanta, they could still be stumped by the interest of Lazio and, perhaps more surprisingly, Manchester United.

De Roon was certainly one of the standout stars for Middlesbrough in what eventually proved to be a disappointing campaign for the club, but the Red Devils keeping tabs still comes as something of a shock.

They would surely be the most appealing option for the 26-year-old because of the simple fact that they are the only interested side that can offer the Netherlands international Champions League football in 2017/18.
