Manchester City talent Gavin Bazunu has reportedly caught the eye of Championship clubs heading into the New Year, however, a loan move can only happen in the summer.
According to BBC Solent reporter Andrew Moon, clubs in the English second-tier are keeping tabs on the Republic of Ireland international, with AFC Bournemouth one of the teams keen on signing Bazunu. But, a move for the City youngster will only come in the summer transfer window.
This is because, barring a goalkeeping crisis at City, there is no way for Bazunu to return to the Manchester club this season. Meaning that the youngster will stay put with League One side Portsmouth for the campaign, where the teenager is impressing.
Bazunu has started all but two league games for the south coast side, with manager Danny Cowley, a title-winning coach with Lincoln City, a huge fan of the keeper.
The former Huddersfield boss told the Sun: “Gav has been different class since he came in. He almost plays as a third centre-back behind us. On the ball, shot stopping, everything about him is just different class.”
Indeed, the youngster is having a breakout season for both club and country. And it is no surprise to see Championship clubs like Bournemouth take an interest in Bazunu, who could be the next big thing to come from Ireland in some time.
Championship loan ideal next step for Bazunu

With clubs now keeping tabs of Bazunu, it seems almost logical that his next step will be to compete in the second-tier, with the Championship an outstanding division for any player to cut their teeth in.
Moreover, with City having a clear number one and two goalkeeper in Ederson Moraes and Zack Steffen, another spell out on loan will do wonders for the teenager. And the Championship could be perfect in 2022 for the Bazunu.
