Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has reportedly pinned Manchester City star Joao Cancelo as his perfect transfer for the Bundesliga giants.
According to Sport Bild, the Bundesliga head coach one day wants to bring the Portuguese international to Bavaria, with Nagelsmann viewing Cancelo as his ‘dream signing’ for Bayern.
As per the report, though, the generational coach understands that a move for the City superstar will be next-to-impossible to complete, with Cancelo one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players and the defender having a contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2027.
The former Juventus star has been one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League this season, with Cancelo taking his performances at left-back to a whole new level. The 27-year-old has three goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Indeed, Nagelsmann’s lust to sign Cancelo is perhaps no real surprise given that the Bayern manager’s main managerial inspiration is none other than Guardiola.
The German coach revealed to Bundesliga.com that the Catalan’s Barcelona team was what aspired Nagelsmann to become a coach, and now, the 34-year-old has a goal of signing one of Guardiola’s best City players in Cancelo.
City will not let Cancelo leave for anyone, let alone Bayern

The rise of Cancelo this season has been a wonder to behold, with the Portuguese star making the left-back position his own for City this season and winning plaudits on every step of the journey, which is why Bayern stand no chance at signing the defender.
The former Valencia fullback has become an integral part of City’s squad for both the present and the future, and whilst Bayern could be appealing for Cancelo, the Manchester giants should be retaining the defender at all costs.
