Manchester City will now face big competition for the signing of Erling Haaland with Real Madrid in the race for the 21-year-old striker.

According to the Sun, Los Blancos are ‘serious’ about signing the Borussia Dortmund star in 2022. The attacker reportedly has a release clause of £68m that comes into effect in the New Year, which has put many of Europe’s top sides on alert for Haaland, namely City.

The Premier League leaders have been rumoured with a move for Haaland for most of the year. The forward has links to City, with the player’s father a former player for the Manchester giants in the early years of the Premier League.

Moreover, City are without a natural striker in the squad after the club failed to sign Harry Kane in the summer following the departure of Sergio Aguero.

However, goals have hardly been an issue for Pep Guardiola’s side in both the Premier League and in Europe.

Whilst Haaland is an extraordinary talent, with the Sun labelling the striker as ‘a monster’, City have been one of the most prolific sides in the Premier League, with only Liverpool scoring more goals in the top-flight this season than the reigning English champions.

Haaland can take City to new heights if they beat Madrid

Indeed, a lack of goals is hardly an issue for City. But Haaland could be the missing factor for Guardiola’s side to dominate Europe for many years to come if they beat Madrid to his signature.

The UEFA Champions League still eludes the Manchester giants, and with Haaland one of the competitions best players in recent years, the striker could fire City to glory in Europe after many years of trying.
