Gabriel Gudmundsson is flattered to catch the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs after Voetbal International linked the young left-back with Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
City may have spent more than £500 million on players since hiring Pep Guardiola in 2016 but, despite that half-a-billion-pound splurge, the Manchester giants still don’t have a top-quality left-back.
The days of Fabian Delph filling in on the flank may be over.
But with Benjamin Mendy still struggling to live up to his £52 million price tag, the right-footed Joao Cancelo has been forced to make a problem position his own this season.
However, reports suggest Guardiola wants a more natural left-sided option, with Gudmundsson joining Atalanta’s Germany international Robin Gosens on the wish list.

21-year-old Gudmundsson has had a massive impact at Groningen, assisting five goals in 19 games in 2020/21.
In fact, there are few better crossers of the ball in Dutch football than the Malmo-born Swede, whose buccaneering performances are reminiscent of former City youngster Angelino during his stellar spell at PSV Eindhoven.
“The interest is fun but, right now, I am only focused on Groningen. I will (make a decision about my future) after the season,” Gudmundsson tells Fotbollskanalen.
Groningen paid a bargain £270,000 to take Gudmundsson from Swedish outfit Halmstads BK in 2019.
You can assume that, with the likes of Man City, Napoli, Dortmund and Leipzig interested, Gudmundsson would cost far more than that these days.
