Manchester City are reportedly growing more worried over the future of academy star James McAtee, with Liverpool keen on the teenager.
According to the Sun, the 19-year-old midfielder, who has been compared to David Silva, is yet to sign a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions. City talents Cole Palmer and Liam Delap have already committed their futures to the Manchester giants.
However, McAtee is yet to put pen to paper over a new deal despite a contract being on the table, and Liverpool, as well as Manchester United, are reportedly keen on the England U-20 international.
Brighton and Hove Albion were also keen on McAtee in the summer. However, City were unable to fend off interest from the Seagulls. Premier League sides lower down in the division beginning to sniff out talents from the top-six for first-team football.
Indeed, the fact McAtee is yet to sign a new contract could be a worrying sign for City. Especially with Liverpool keeping tabs on the teenage midfielder.
With Jurgen Klopp having an excellent track record with bringing through youth players, Pep Guardiola’s side could lose one of their top talents to their Premier League rivals.
City have to ensure McAtee doesn’t end up at Liverpool
The rivalry between City and Liverpool has exploded over the past few years. With the two sides once again likely to lock horns this season for the Premier League title. And the Manchester side losing McAtee to their Merseyside nemesis could be a huge blow.
Whilst McAtee has hardly featured for City this campaign, it would be a huge psychological blow for the club if they were to lose one of the club’s top talents to Liverpool.
