CalcioMercato report Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini is ‘captivated’ by Liverpool striker Divock Origi – and talks have taken place with the Belgian’s agents in ‘recent days’. Premier League clubs are also keen.
Origi, 26, has become a Liverpool icon during his eight years at Anfield – in which he has scored 40 goals in 171 appearances. They include a magical brace against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final comeback.
It also includes a goal in the Champions League final against Tottenham. But Origi is out of contract in the summer and it is incredibly unlikely he is offered a new deal by Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board beforehand.
Milan are keen. Maldini was impressed with Origi in the recent Champions League clash between the two sides – and has initiated talks to sign Origi in ‘recent days’. However, he faces competition from multiple English clubs.
Maldini eyes Origi: Milan move would be brilliant for Liverpool ace
Milan do have options up top. But Olivier Giroud is 35, and has a contract until 2023. Zlatan Ibrahmovic, like Origi, is out of contract this summer. Rafael Leao could end up in the Premier League, with multiple clubs keen.
So, Milan could do with another option up top and Origi would be ideal. Given Giroud and Ibrahimovic will eventually go on a free, signing a striker as good as Origi for nothing saves them cash. A great move for Origi, too.
