Celtic’s potential third round qualifying opponents could have the inside scoop on the Hoops.

The Scottish Sun report that Maccabi Tel-Aviv could use former Celtic chief scout John Park to give them the scoop on Neil Lennon’s side if the two teams meet in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Both sides have to navigate second qualifying round ties first, with the Hoops facing off against Estonian champions Nomme Kalju and Maccabi battling CFR Cluj.

However, if both prove successful then they’ve been drawn to play for a spot in the play-off round of the competition.

The Sun reckon that Park is a football consultant for the Israeli champions and having had a successful relationship with Celtic and Lennon in the past is well placed to give them some great information.

Park was reported by The Daily Mail to have been wanted by Lennon to help with recruitment this summer, but the club eventually turned to former West Brom technical director Nick Hammond.

During Lennon’s first spell at the club Park was a key figure in helping bring players to Celtic Park, working with the current Hoops boss and other staff members on deals for Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper amongst others.

Regardless of Park’s presence or not, Celtic will remain hot favourites to win the tie given they are the second highest seeds in the qualifying process behind Ajax.

Realistically Celtic have plenty of recent high profile European history to analyse in any case. That was always going to be available.

However, Park is a respected figure in the game with a specialism in Scottish football. Well aware of how Lennon’s teams like to play, he could still be a big asset for the Israelis.
