According to Foot Mercato, Lyon have joined Arsenal in the race to sign AZ Alkmaar attacker Myron Boadu as a potential replacement for Moussa Dembele.

Boadu has alerted several clubs following a terrific campaign last term.

The 19-year-old posted 18 goals and eight assists despite the Eredivisie ending early.

A report back in April from Voetbal4u claimed Arsenal were tracking him.

And now, Foot Mercato say the Gunners have competition for his signature from French side Lyon who fear losing top scorer Moussa Dembele this summer.

Ironically, Arsenal have also been linked with £73 million rated Dembele (Le10sport).

Boadu’s links to the Gunners, however, go back even further than this season after the talented Dutchman claimed he previously rejected a move to the club.

In an interview quoted by Goal, he told reporters how he turned down a move for the Emirates Stadium in favour of moving to Alkmaar.

“I’m playing in the first team now. I don’t know if that would have been the case at Arsenal, where I would play with boys of my own age, which didn’t appeal to me. I never regretted rejecting those clubs,” he said.

Arsenal had uncertainty over Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s future this summer.

But now the Gabon international has agreed a new three-year deal with the Gunners, it remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta pushes for another forward signing.

Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie, Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and former Chelsea man Willian make up the fellow attacking options available to Arteta this season.
