Reports in his Senegalese homeland are suggesting that Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has new suitors in the transfer market in the form of French side Lyon.
IGFM is reporting that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has been in contact with Gueye’s representatives over the potential signature of the Villa midfielder – who impressed statistically last season despite his club’s relegation.

The report claims that they are willing to match his current wages at Villa and meet the £7.1 million asking price for his services.

However, it is well known that Lyon’s Ligue 1 rivals Marseille also held a vested interest in Gueye’s services, but could not pull off a deal.
One key reason was Gueye’s apparent insistence not to return to the French league, from where he left Lille to join Villa last summer. However, Lyon are said to be hopeful their presence in the Champions League will convince him otherwise.

Gueye was one of the only new recruits from Villa last summer to make a decent impression on the Premier League last season and it appears that has not gone unnoticed.
Villa would of course like him to stay but removing his wages from the books will also be a bonus to the club in regards to future transfer moves.
