The Fiorentina ace is a target for Lyon, after a failed stint in England with Aston Villa.

According to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Ligue 1 side Lyon are lining up a €20 million (£17.4 million) swoop for Fiorentina ace Jordan Veretout, just one year after he left Aston Villa for only £6 million.

The 25-year-old joined the Villans from Nantes in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £8 million, but he failed to establish himself in the west Midlands.

Veretout notched zero goals and just five assists in 29 appearances for Villa, before being farmed out to St-Etienne on loan in the summer of 2016.

He went on to leave the club permanently last summer, joining Fiorentina in a £6 million deal.

The Frenchman has found a new lease of life in Serie A, though, and has flourished after being deployed in a more deep-lying midfield role.

He has impressed so much so that Lyon are lining up £17.4 million summer bid for his services, according to Calcio Mercato.

That would represent an £11.4 million profit for Fiorentina, should they agree to sell Veretout, and Villa will surely be kicking themselves, having arguably let the Frenchman go too soon.
