West Ham United have reportedly been given permission to discuss a move for Derby County starlet Luke Thomas.

Thomas is arguably one of the most exciting talents in the Rams’ ranks right now, making two substitute appearances in the Championship last season.

His inclusion in Frank Lampard’s squad for their pre-season training camp in Tenerife hinted that the new Derby boss had hoped to consider handing the 19-year-old more chances next term. However, it appears that he may be on the move before the new campaign begins.

Should the expected talks progress well, then Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to make Thomas his fifth signing of the summer, with Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop and Lukasz Fabianski all bolstering the first-team squad, while Sebastian Nebyla has also arrived to be a part of the youth ranks.
Thomas may not be ready to move into Pellegrini’s plans just yet if he does sign, but it would be little surprise if many of the Pride Park faithful felt that it would be a major blow to lose the teenager this summer, and that hints that West Ham may have another very talented youngsters in their ranks.
